Whoops! I’ve been so busy with some other work I’ve been doing that I didn’t schedule a post for this morning ahead of time. I’m actually pleased to be able to say that this is the first time in a long time that I haven’t had a Monday post ready beforehand. (Because of all those weeks I was prepared.)
This is an outtake from the justice/equality/mercy knit/purl pattern. It’s my favorite bit of the whole design. (It doesn’t mean anything by itself.)
I suspect from the simplicity of it that it’s probably a traditional stitch pattern.
Sorry I don’t have a swatch photo yet, but I like the way it makes an undulating design when worked in knit/purl. I expect it would be nice in cross stitch or other gridded techniques, too!
Notes:
- This is a stitch pattern such as might be found in a stitch dictionary. It is not a pattern for a finished object. You will need to add selvedges or some other form of knitted stitches to either side.
- Wings is a multiple of 8 + 1 stitches and 3 + 1 rows
- Designers, please feel free to use this stitch in your patterns.

Row 1 (RS): k1, *(p3, k1) x 2 ; work from *.
Row 2 (WS): p1, *(p1, k2) x 2, p2 ; work from *.
Row 3: *k1, p2, k3, p2 ; work from *, k1.
Work rows 1-3 as desired, ending with row 1.
